Act I

Setting: A village store.

Introduction: Mads is arranging the products in his store when the very talkative fox enters.

Fox: Hello, hello! How are you, Mr. Mads? How is life treating you? It’s been a while since I’ve been in your store.

Mads: (somewhat surprised) Very well Mrs. Fox and you, how are you doing?

Fox: perfect, but how many products do you have in this store, it is obvious that you care about giving the best to your customers. This is my favorite store. Can you please show me that can of peas.

Mads turns his back to the fox to look for the can of peas that is closest to him, the fox takes the opportunity to stretch out his paw and try to snatch a piece of fruit that is on the counter. But Mads turns around and the fox has to withdraw her paw slyly.

Mads: (Stretching the can to the fox) Here.

Fox: (shaking her head and pointing to a can farther away) No, I wasn’t talking about this one, Mr. Mads, but the one on top, those are the best peas.

Mads: (with a gesture of annoyance) Wait, I’ll bring it down.

Mads climbs up on a small stool to reach the can and the fox takes advantage of the moment to take the fruit and hide it.

Mads: (getting off the stool and bringing the can closer) Is this it, are you going to take it?

Fox: (pretending to be embarrassed) Oh no! Mr. Mads, I just remembered that I have to buy other things and I don’t have enough money. Thank you, you are very kind.

The fox leaves the store and Mads begins to clean the counter, realizing that a fruit is missing and shakes his head. At that moment Emma enters.

Emma: What’s wrong, Mads?

Mads: (Very annoyed) That cheating fox asked me to show her the peas that were farthest away so she could take a fruit without paying. But she’ll see, she’s going to pay for them.

Emma: (Trying to calm him down) It’s just a fruit, you’re not going to make an enemy over a fruit. Maybe she was hungry and didn’t have anything to pay with.

Mads: (Still annoyed) If he was hungry and couldn’t pay, ask me for what he wants and I’ll tell him if I can give it to him, but don’t steal from me!

Emma: You better close the store and let’s go and have some tea, you are very angry Mads.

They both leave the store.

Act II

Setting: The same store.

Introduction: Mads is arranging some containers on the counter and sees the fox coming from far away.

Mads: (Laughing ironically) Here you come, you cheating Fox, today you’re going to pay for it, like I’m the bear Mads.

Fox: (Entering again, very talkative) Good morning, how are you doing Mr. Mads, is it hard work?

Mads: (trying to pretend to be normal, but wanting to hang the fox) How are you doing, Fox? Good morning, how can I help you?

Fox: Oh dear friend, do you remember that yesterday I couldn’t take the peas? Today I came for them, but I want the ones in the can you showed me, they are the ones I like.

Mads: (With a mischievous smile on his face) With pleasure, I’ll go up and get that can.

The fox takes the opportunity to look at everything on the counter and notices that one of the jars that Mads was arranging said sugar, without thinking twice, she puts her paw in, takes a fist and puts it in her mouth. But suddenly she starts screaming and trying to spit.

Fox: (Desperate, screaming, spitting and blowing air into her mouth) Ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Mads: (pretending not to know what’s going on) What’s wrong with you fox?

Mads gets off the stool, and Emma enters the place when she hears the commotion. The vixen moves all over the place without stopping blowing air into her mouth and spitting.

Emma: (puzzled) What’s going on?

Fox: (without stopping screaming) Water, Water!

Emma: (Going to a pitcher to pour the water) Here you go Mrs. Fox.

Mads can’t resist and starts laughing

Fox: (Very annoyed) This was a trap, that container says sugar and it’s salt, I’ve burned my whole tongue.

Mads: (Without stopping laughing) Yes, it’s a lesson, learn not to touch other people’s things, you think you’re very clever and you’re a cheat, get out of my store!

Jun begins to make gestures to run the fox and she leaves the store in terror.

Emma: (Smiling) Every cheater has his day.

Mads: (Very happy) That’s right, old lady, that’s right.

They leave the stage and the light goes out as if closing the tent.

THE END.
