SINGLE ACT

Lady (when she feels the culprit falling on her): Help, I have been robbed.

Guilty (trying to help her): Excuse me ma’am, the boy pushed me when he ran away.

Lady (screaming hysterically): What boy? You robbed me, police! I’ve been robbed.

Guilty (frightened and trying to defend himself): No ma’am I didn’t rob you, the boy who pushed me snatched your purse.

At that moment a policeman who was nearby arrives, accompanied by the boy who robbed the lady.

Policeman (very serious): What happened, ma’am?

Lady (without stopping shouting): He stole my purse Mr. policeman, arrest him.

Guilty (even more frightened): I didn’t rob anyone, I was walking and suddenly they pushed me over the lady, at that moment, they robbed her.

Policeman (taking the culprit by the arm): This man told me that he saw everything and that he is a witness that you jumped on the lady and robbed her, where is the bag?

Guilty (trying to get away): I don’t know where that purse is, I didn’t rob anyone, I am innocent, ma’am please, you didn’t see me snatch her purse, tell the policeman that you didn’t see me.

Lady (annoyed but no longer shouting): of course you stole from me, arrest him Mr. Policeman.

Thief (with an accusing tone): I saw him, he snatched the lady’s purse, but he didn’t have time to run, I was passing by just at that moment.

Policeman (determined): Well there’s nothing more to say, I’ll take you to the police station, the lady will file a complaint and we’ll see what happens to you.

Guilty (Desperate): How do I explain to her that I didn’t steal anything? Lady, please!

The policeman takes the culprit by the arm to take him to the police station, when a woman appears.

Witness (speaking loudly to make herself heard by the policeman): Wait Mr. policeman, I am a witness of everything that happened, the lady was walking down this street, the boy was coming behind, they pushed him and he fell on her, and that was the moment the thief took advantage of to take her purse.

Defendant: Did you see? I didn’t do anything.

Police (Intrigued): And if this is not the thief, who robbed the lady?

The thief begins to walk slowly backwards trying to flee, but the witness speaks quickly.

Witness (pointing to the thief): He was the one who stole the lady’s purse.

The policeman releases the accused and grabs the thief by the arm, pushing him to take him to jail.

Policeman: Well, if this is the thief, he is going to pay for his mistakes, you are under arrest.

The policeman takes the thief away, and the accused thanks the witness for saving him.
